Define the commercial rule
Record the promotion period, sale level, eligible scope, discount type and ownership before execution begins. Informal messages are not a durable commercial control.
Make slabs explicit
Quantity offers, standard discounts, slab discounts, fixed values and free sampling need clear thresholds and outcomes. Ambiguous slabs create disputes at both invoice and claim time.
Preserve transaction context
The claim review should retain location, principal, outlet or customer scope, SKU context, quantities, values and the relevant sale evidence. Totals without this context are hard to validate.
Separate configured rules from proven effects
A configured promotion does not by itself prove how stock, discount or finance was posted. Verify the actual transaction effect before using it for settlement or ROI analysis.
Reconcile claims deliberately
Review discount summaries, free-SKU evidence and distributor or trade-offer claim reports against the agreed commercial rule. Keep exceptions visible until finance and commercial owners resolve them.
Test the full scenario
During software evaluation, configure one real scheme, execute eligible and ineligible transactions, process a return and inspect the resulting claim and finance evidence.
